The International Women’s Day celebration officially was endorsed and kick-started on 8th March 1977 by the UN and since then, the day has been dedicated to discussing gender issues as it concerns discourses around Women and other marginalized group, linking to the reality of contexts witnessed by the world.
The theme internationally for 2023: DigitAll – Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality.
The virtual event for Nation First Foundation culminated with a discussion which was live-streamed on its various social media handles. The discussion was contextualized having three panelist who respondent to series of questions from an anchor on the topic;
“Leading a Technology and Innovation Driven Gender Equality in Nigeria.”
Therefrom, we can deduce that for women in Nigeria and other parts of the world, “silence is no longer golden.” They must speak out and the best channel is to use technology which has no boundary in terms of gender. Women can rise above the backwaters if they innovatively engage the avenues of entrepreneurship and venture into businesses with open mind as individuals first. The crux of the matter is that equality is not enough but equity would mean that women and girls, regardless of their backgrounds should take all the opportunities available to reach their potentials in life.
